Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 4, 2026
APRS Express ("the Application") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how your information is collected, used, and safeguarded.
1. Data Collection
APRS Express is designed with a "Privacy First" philosophy.
Personal Data: We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal identification information (PII) to our own servers. The only personal data associated with the Application is provided through the Apple App Store and your Apple ID (e.g., for subscription management and purchase history), which is managed entirely by Apple Inc.
Beta Testing Data:
For individuals participating in or applying for beta testing, we collect your Full Name, Callsign, Apple ID, Primary Hardware Setup, and Primary Testing Device. This data is used exclusively for managing TestFlight invitations and optimizing development based on hardware variety.
Station Data: Information such as your Amateur Radio Callsign and SSID is stored locally on your device and used only for the purpose of identifying your station on the APRS network.
2. Location Information
APRS Express requires access to your device's location to function as an APRS client.
Purpose:
Location data is used to display your position on the map and to generate APRS beacons.
Transmission:
When you enable "Beaconing" or connect to "APRS-IS," your location coordinates are broadcast over public radio frequencies (RF) or transmitted to public APRS-IS servers. By using these features, you acknowledge that APRS is a public protocol and your location will be visible to other operators and internet-based tracking services.
Control:
You have full control over when location services are active. You may also use the "Position Ambiguity" feature within the Application to reduce the precision of your reported location.
3. Third-Party Services
The Application utilizes the following third-party services which may have their own privacy policies:
- Apple Maps: Used for mapping and location visualization.
- OpenStreetMap (OSM): Used as an alternative map provider.
- APRS-IS Network: Data is sent to volunteer-run APRS-IS servers.
4. Local Storage
All logs, recordings, and settings (including callsigns and passcodes) are stored locally on your device using encrypted system storage (SwiftData / UserDefaults). We do not have access to this data.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
